All’ultimo incontro con gli studenti e le loro famiglie, alcuni dei membri della comunità di Sololo si sono così espressi:
At the last meeting with the students and their families, some of the members of the Sololo community expressed themselves as follows:
1- Il Sig. G.J. ha ringraziato gli operatori, apprezzandone lo sforzo, per quello che il progetto ha fatto e che sta facendo per la comunità. Ha sollecitato tutti a sostenerne le iniziative del progetto collaborando nell’educazione dei giovani specie per prevenire l’uso delle droghe; per stimolarli nello studio e per far loro comprendere i sacrifici fatti dai loro genitori per educarli e l’importanza degli studi come mezzo per uscire dalla povertà.
1- Mr. G.J. thanked the operators, appreciating their effort, for what the project has done and is doing for the community. He urged everyone to support their initiatives by collaborating in educating young people to avoid the use of drugs; to stimulate them to study and to make them understand the sacrifices of their parents to educate them and the importance of studies as a means to get out of poverty.
2- Mr S.A. ha riferito di avere ricordato al Governatore, in una riunione dove entrambi erano presenti, la promessa fatta di completare la copertura dell’area giochi del Villaggio Obbitu.
2- Mr S.A. reported having reminded the Governor, in a meeting where both were present, of the promise made to complete the coverage of the playground of the Obbitu Village.
3- Mrs B.G. si è rivolto ai giovani ed ai loro parenti sottolineando quanto il Comitato di Gestione del Progetto Sololo abbia lavorato per valutare le diverse situazioni dei minori particolarmente vulnerabili per selezionare quelli da segnalare al progetto per la loro presa in carico. Ha detto ai parenti che non è educativo mettere a disposizione paghette in danaro al giovane studente che per le prime volte affronta le pressioni dei coetanei. Ha raccomandato ai giovani di non frequentare cattive compagnie e di aiutare i parenti a casa durante le vacanze scolastiche. Ha raccomandato alle giovani di prevenire le gravidanze precoci in quanto queste comportano rallentamento nell’apprendimento fino all’abbandono degli studi compromettendo ogni loro aspettativa per il futuro
3- Mrs B.G. addressed the young people and their relatives, underlining how much the Management Committee of the Sololo Project has worked to evaluate the different situations of particularly vulnerable minors by choosing those to be reported to the project for their care. She told relatives that it is not educational to make pocket money available to the young student who is facing peer pressure for the first time. She advised young people not to associate with bad company and to help relatives at home during the school holidays. She recommended that young women prevent early pregnancies as these lead to a slowdown in learning until they drop out of school, compromising all their expectations for the future.
4- La signora M.B. ha ringraziato Dio e il progetto per il suo sostegno ai membri più bisognosi della comunità. Ha detto che come rappresentante della comunità è soddisfatta e felice di lavorare con questo progetto che aiuta le persone bisognose. Ha consigliato ai genitori di educare e consigliare i propri figli. Ha detto agli studenti di evitare la pressione dei loro coetanei e l’uso dei boda boda poiché li distrae dal loro apprendimento. Ha continuato ringraziando il progetto per aver sostenuto i diritti degli studenti bisognosi e dato il sostegno per ottenere borse di studio come fossero le loro ali per volare.
4- Mrs M.B. thanked God and the project for their support to most needy members of the community. She said as community representative she is satisfied and happy to work with the project to help needy person. She advised parents to guide and advise their children at home. She told students to avoid peer pressure and use of boda boda as it distracts their learning. She went on to thank the project for advocating for the rights of needy students and networking to get them scholarship like wings to fly.
5- La signora T.M. madre di J.M. ha detto al gruppo in ascolto che ha beneficiato molto dal progetto e che suo figlio completerà presto la scuola secondaria e se tutto andrà bene la famiglia ne godrà i frutti. Ha incoraggiato gli studenti a lavorare sodo a scuola per ottenere buoni voti; per far uscire la famiglia dalla povertà. La signora T. ha chiesto agli studenti di aiutare i genitori a casa durante le vacanze scolastiche e di evitare i cattivi amici. Ha scoraggiato i genitori dal favorire i frequenti trasferimenti degli studenti da una scuola all’altra
5- Mrs T.M. mother to J.M. told the team she has benefited a lot from the project and her son will complete secondary school soon and if all goes well the family will enjoy the fruits. She encouraged students to work hard at school to get good grades to get family out of poverty. Mrs Tume asked students to help parents at home during school holidays and avoid bad friends. She discouraged parents on frequent transfer of students from one school to another
6- La signora K.N. ha ringraziato il progetto per aver sostenuto a lungo la sua famiglia e ha raccontato come ne abbia tratto molto beneficio. Ha ricordato agli studenti e ai genitori di seguire i consigli che sono stati dati. Ha detto agli studenti di essere disciplinati e di lavorare sodo, chè la loro è una guerra contro la povertà. Ha anche detto ai genitori di controllare se gli studenti portano al progetto, senza indugio, i loro certificati e le pagelle scolastiche.
6- Mrs K.N. thanked the project for supporting her family for long and narrated how she benefited. She reminded students and parents to take in advice given. She told students to be disciplined and work hard it is a war against poverty. She also told parents to follow up and see if students take their school report forms to the project without delay.
7- Il signor G.D. ha spiegato agli studenti il perché sono stati mandati a studiare. Ha detto agli studenti di provare a ripetere e ritentare sempre le cose, anche molte volte, fino a quando non ottengono buoni voti. Ha inoltre spiegato agli studenti che si possono ottenere buoni voti anche se si sono avuti voti bassi nelle scuole primarie. Ai genitori ha ripetuto di stare attenti con la paghetta data agli studenti. Il denaro extra potrebbe avere un impatto negativo sulla socializzazione e sul comportamento degli studenti.
7- Mr G.D. told students why they are at school. He told students to try doing things many
times until they get good grades. He further told students you can get good grades despite
achieving low marks in KCPE. Parents were told to be careful with amount of pocket money
given to students. The extra money will have negative impact on the socialization and behaviour of the students.
8- Il sig. A.O. ha informato i genitori ei bambini che lui li comprende più di qualsiasi altro presente poiché lui è stato nelle loro case e nelle scuole a raccogliere informazioni ed anche a fare foto ai bambini. Le informazioni raccolte vengono inviate al donatore che così è sempre più coinvolto ed interessato. Ha consigliato ai minori di portare, entro la prima settimana dal loro arrivo a casa in vacanza dalla scuola, i certificati scolastici per poter compilare la relazione periodica ai sostenitori e pagare le tasse alla scuola. Se il progetto non presenta la relazione, nessuna informazione raggiungerà il donatore e nessun denaro sarà da lui versato per gli studenti. Il donatore chiederà al progetto le notizie inerenti lo studente e il progetto non ne avrà da darne a tuo riguardo da poter informare il donatore. In questo modo si rischia di essere abbandonati dal programma e sarai tu l’unico responsabile ad averlo causato non avendo fornito il materiale informativo dell’andamento scolastico. Ha inoltre sottolineato come siano le buone prestazioni le principali motivazioni al donatore per continuare a sostenere il “suo” studente.
8- Mr A.O. informed the parents and the children that he understands them more than
anybody else here. That he has been to their homes and schools to collect information and also take photos of children. The information he collects are sent to the donor and it’s all time bound. He advised the children to bring their report and fees structures within the first week of their arrival for holiday. If the report forms are not presented then no information will reach the donor and no money will be paid for the students. The donor will ask me for your information and I have no information on you to provide for the donor, therefore you risk to be dropped put of the program and you are the once who caused. further stressed on good performance as a motivation for the donor to continue supporting you.
